Roses and Thorns

Last summer I worked for a super fun family.  Each day at dinner they did something called "Roses and Thorns" where each person told a highlight/good thing (rose) and a low or tough moment (thorn) that happened.  I believe they got this tradition from the First Family.  I'm going to share my Rose and Thorn for the week.

Let's start with the Thorn.  On Thursday, I found out the job I'd been interviewing for was offered to the other candidate.  A bummer for sure, but I'd started to get that feeling when I hadn't heard any thing by Monday.  The search continues!

My Rose this week definitely has to be hanging out with two of the snuggliest cats ever in DC.

I'm house/cat sitting for a friend's neighbor and am really enjoying my time here so far.  I get to see one of my besties pretty often and it feels like I'm in college as I go downstairs in my pajamas and flip flops to get something from his apartment or use his microwave.  I am also planning to check a couple things off my 101 List!  Stay tuned!

A Week Later

What a difference a week can make.  Last Sunday I posted that maybe my luck was changing.  Monday, a friend called and said she'd spoken to someone at a company where I'd applied for a job and asked for my resume.  Tuesday, I got an email about having a phone interview that afternoon.  Thursday, I had a Skype interview with the same company.  Today rounded out the process with an in person interview.

It has been a crazy week with lots of research, chaos, and some freak outs, but overall each step went well.  The interviewer said he was pleased after the Skype interview and seemed pleased today.  Hopefully, it will lead to an offer.  I should hear by the week's end.

Fingers crossed!!!

Who me?!

Today I went to a Halloween Block Party with my friend Heather in the Beverly Hills neighborhood of Baltimore.  There was a raffle for a couple of carved pumpkins and I won this beauty!
I rarely win anything, so maybe this means my luck is changing!  Happy Hallo-Hallo-ween, y'all!

I'm ACTUALLY an Aimeless Wanderer

Okay, so maybe I'm not completely aimless but I am wandering that's for sure!  So my friend, Lauren, told me she'd updated her blog and 101 list and suggested I do the same.  I've thought about it and have been putting it off, but here I am.  My goal is to document progress on my original 101 list by the end of next week and then work on an updated list.

Now, onto my wanderer status.  For the last year or so I'd been itching for some change.  I love Baltimore, but I was "over" Baltimore.  Then, I was laid off from my job at the end of the school year.  Hello, change!  A month later, a friend asked me to house and cat sit in Easton for a few weeks in July/August.  At which point I decided I should end my lease, put my things in storage, and move out of my house.  Hello again, change!

After my time in Easton, I spent a week in North Carolina at the lovely Outer Banks and then the true wandering began.  Now I spend my time either at my mom's place or on the couch/spare bed of a friend.  Two months in, I'm ready for a home.  I miss living in a smoke-free home (my step-dad smokes IN the house).  I miss wandering the house in my undies.  I miss being alone sometimes.  I think I'm ready to say hello to change again very, very soon.

Come on, job interviews!!

Sleep....

....that's what I want. Things have been hectic in my life these past couple weeks and will continue to be so for the next few. So many changes are happening in my life right now. My roommate is moving to DC, so a new one will be moving in. I've decided that I'm going to at least apply to graduate school (now I can cross that off my 101 102 list) and will, hopefully, be accepted. If I am....more change! For a person who considers herself to be 'laid back' and 'go with the flow,' I have decided that I don't really enjoy change because it causes me great stress and then I either sleep too much or not enough. Right now, I am definitely on the not enough side of the equation. I cannot wait to go to sleep early on Friday night and sleep late on Saturday!!!

A Date

On Tuesday, I went on what I guess one could technically call a "date." It was an interesting date that included drinks and a meal and conversation, but it was not a date that will lead to other dates. I guess technically, I can scratch it off my list and I will do just that so I can complete another task. However, it would've been much more fun to scratch it off after going on a date that may lead to other dates. Maybe I'll get the opportunity to scratch it off twice.....

Question: Does it count as a date if I pay? I mean, I'm supposed to be a modern woman....

One Week...

I hadn't been keeping track of my face washing before bed, but last week I spent the night at a friend's house unplanned and it was a notable face washing experience. Tonight I realized it'd been a week since the adventure.

Adventure.
Since it was an unplanned stay, I had none of my things. Normally, on occasions like this, I would just go to bed. However, it was now 4am, I'd been out since 930am, I had on a full face of makeup (a rarity these days)....I needed to wash my face!

Enter Bathroom...Not too much to be found in the way of grooming products. On the sink - some Jergens, mouthwash, cologne, liquid dial, deodorant.....no "facial wash" of any sort. In the shower - blue dial bar soap, toothpaste & 2-in-1 shampoo. *sigh*

I was then forced to choose between blue Dial bar soap or gold liquid dial...basically my choices were very drying soap or very drying soap (boys!) I went with the very drying liquid dial since it was at the sink. Then there's the moisturizing issue to battle the very drying soap. Amazingly enough my friend Talishia, who was on this adventure with me, for reasons unbeknownst to me had facial moisturizer in her purse. I also realized that I had some moisturizing facial spray in my bag. Yea!

In the morning, I inquired as to how "blue dial soap" friend washed his face and with what he moisturized his face. His reply, "Soap. I don't moisturize; I don't have skin problems." I guess because I live with a gay man, I've become spoiled. I know that even if it smells like boy, there will still be facial wash, facial scrub, and moisturizer to be found. If you're around on a good day, it may even contain an SPF. Gotta love the gays!

Anyway, the point of all that rambling was to say I'm on my way to completing #77, as I have washed my face for seven days in a row. 23 more days to go. Hopefully, no more of them will involve dial soap.....
