Smack the Penguin!

So my friend, Stephanie, sent me an email forward today with the best game EVER! The email warned it was addictive, but I didn't believe it. Flaw in the plan because I am addicted. Anyway, please try to Smack the Penguin! I LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!! My high score (so far) is 322.9 323.3 323.5. What's yours?

One more off the list...

I HAD ETHIOPIAN FOOD!!

On Saturday, my book club had its monthly meeting at Dukem in Baltimore to discuss this month's book, A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier by Ishmael Beah. Dukem is an Ethiopian restaurant near the Meyerhoff. I was excited and terrified at the same time because I wasn't quite sure what to expect. Well, let it be said that I was pleasantly surprised. Not sure if I was more pleased with the food or the experience itself.

We decided to get a combination platter so we could sample several different things. There was lamb, beef, chicken, lentils, peas, and things I don't recall. It was served with a tangy flatbread that is used to pick up the food and eat - no utensils! Great fun! Some of the food was a bit spicy for my palate, but it was good nonetheless. I highly recommend that everyone try Ethiopian cuisine. I can't wait to return!

Sleep....

....that's what I want. Things have been hectic in my life these past couple weeks and will continue to be so for the next few. So many changes are happening in my life right now. My roommate is moving to DC, so a new one will be moving in. I've decided that I'm going to at least apply to graduate school (now I can cross that off my 101 102 list) and will, hopefully, be accepted. If I am....more change! For a person who considers herself to be 'laid back' and 'go with the flow,' I have decided that I don't really enjoy change because it causes me great stress and then I either sleep too much or not enough. Right now, I am definitely on the not enough side of the equation. I cannot wait to go to sleep early on Friday night and sleep late on Saturday!!!

Lunch Bags for a Cause

A few years back, a co-worker and I both spotted lunch bags in Real Simple magazine. Since everyone on our lunch shift made fun of us for using shopping bags, we decided to buy these bags from Lean Cuisine. The bags are a flat rate of $9.95 - shipping included - and $5 goes to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Order soon because they run out fast! Last year I tried to buy at the end of September/early October and they were sold out!

A Date

On Tuesday, I went on what I guess one could technically call a "date." It was an interesting date that included drinks and a meal and conversation, but it was not a date that will lead to other dates. I guess technically, I can scratch it off my list and I will do just that so I can complete another task. However, it would've been much more fun to scratch it off after going on a date that may lead to other dates. Maybe I'll get the opportunity to scratch it off twice.....

Question: Does it count as a date if I pay? I mean, I'm supposed to be a modern woman....

102 in 1002

I started this post a LONG time ago....

So, I'm making a change. While on a FABULOUS trip to Savannah, GA, my awesome hosts told me they had a tractor. It wasn't just any tractor, it was a John Deere! How exciting is that?! Well, it was exciting to me. They told me I could drive it, but unfortunately we ran out of time. I was so excited Jessica (aka. awesome host #1) asked if it was on my 101 list. It wasn't on my list because I didn't know of anyone who owned a tractor and actually never thought I'd be able to drive one. Now, not only will I be able to drive a John Deere, but I also have an EXCELLENT excuse to return to Savannah.

Since the opportunity has been given to me, I am adding "Drive a John Deere" to my list. I will officially now be completing 102 things in 1002 days. :)

Thanks, Jessica & Mark (aka. awesome host #2)!

One Week...

I hadn't been keeping track of my face washing before bed, but last week I spent the night at a friend's house unplanned and it was a notable face washing experience. Tonight I realized it'd been a week since the adventure.

Adventure.
Since it was an unplanned stay, I had none of my things. Normally, on occasions like this, I would just go to bed. However, it was now 4am, I'd been out since 930am, I had on a full face of makeup (a rarity these days)....I needed to wash my face!

Enter Bathroom...Not too much to be found in the way of grooming products. On the sink - some Jergens, mouthwash, cologne, liquid dial, deodorant.....no "facial wash" of any sort. In the shower - blue dial bar soap, toothpaste & 2-in-1 shampoo. *sigh*

I was then forced to choose between blue Dial bar soap or gold liquid dial...basically my choices were very drying soap or very drying soap (boys!) I went with the very drying liquid dial since it was at the sink. Then there's the moisturizing issue to battle the very drying soap. Amazingly enough my friend Talishia, who was on this adventure with me, for reasons unbeknownst to me had facial moisturizer in her purse. I also realized that I had some moisturizing facial spray in my bag. Yea!

In the morning, I inquired as to how "blue dial soap" friend washed his face and with what he moisturized his face. His reply, "Soap. I don't moisturize; I don't have skin problems." I guess because I live with a gay man, I've become spoiled. I know that even if it smells like boy, there will still be facial wash, facial scrub, and moisturizer to be found. If you're around on a good day, it may even contain an SPF. Gotta love the gays!

Anyway, the point of all that rambling was to say I'm on my way to completing #77, as I have washed my face for seven days in a row. 23 more days to go. Hopefully, no more of them will involve dial soap.....

Yes, Godfather

I went to a FABULOUS 101 kickoff party at Sara B's on Saturday and had a blast. Inspired to mark another thing off our list (a half a thing for me) Angela and I watched the first Godfather movie on Sunday. It was long, but good. Am actually interested in seeing what Part 2 will be like. One more major accomplishment over the weekend... STRIKETHROUGH! I am so excited!!!

Progress...

So, I had a semi-productive Independence Day. I typed and posted my 101 list, which I originally had no intentions of typing but found it necessary to do so b/c of a 101 party I'm attending this weekend. I slept in after playing a bit of Flip Cup on Tuesday evening. Then I went to the store to pick up some things for the BBQ (which ended up being an indoor adventure, thanks to the rain) I was headed to. Maybe productive was a poor word choice. Either way, it was a good day.

101

A bunch of my friends and I, thanks to the lovely Sara B., are doing "101 in 1001." The idea is to make a list of 101 Things, be they minor or major, that you'd like to accomplish in 1001 Days (about 2.75 years). So... I was checking out my friend Lauren's 101 blog and noticed that she'd placed a link for my blog on her page.

Since I haven't written anything for over a month (neither of my two previous entries is 101 related), I decided I should make some sort of update and write something. My 101 list is handwritten because I think better pencil to paper than I do typing, so it's not posted. However, I have added links to the 101 blogs of my friends.

Geez, this post was not as cleverly written as I'd originally planned....c'est la vie!

Tea

So, in a selfish effort not to drive home for Mother's Day, I decided to see if I could get a reservation at Reynolds Tavern in Annapolis. Fat chance, right?! Mother's Day is this weekend. WRONG! They had 2 reservations left. WOO-HOO!! Hopefully, my mom will be willing to make the drive and enjoy the afternoon with me.

Inspired...

I've been inspired. My friend, Angela, has become a techie over the past few months - blowing by me, to say the least. I refuse to get a myspace page b/c I'm a myspace stalker without having a myspace page. I fear that if I have my own page the stalking would get worse. However, I felt that I could follow in her footsteps and get a blog. We'll see how this goes....if I become too obsessed, I will definitely have to let this go.
